Dirty Donny’s Loot

June 5th, 2010

Here is an excerpt of images from a project I am working on with Mr. Bounds and Mr. Dirty that will be published by Gingko Press for Double D’s upcoming book. Donny makes T-shirts, shrunken heads, collectibles, toys, posters, pinball machines, and custom painted anythings. You name it. The photography is straight forward and shot on white so it doesn’t take attention away from the objects. Can’t wait to see the finished layouts in the book. It may seem a little different from my normal work, but I hit the product stuff every now and then. Donny also runs a lively blog called Street Walking Cheetah. Check it.

I have been working with art director, designer, artist, and good friend Brian Bounds on a new project. Brian is collaborating with skater, artist, builder, and genius Jason Jessee on a massive undertaking that involves cataloging Jason’s art and personal artifacts. Not sure how much info I should put out there about this business, but I am really enjoying it. I always learn something new about skate history with every visit to Jason’s shop. He is true blue, and my favorite thing about Jason is that he is a fan of everyone!

This Sinners jacket above has been photographed in many different magazines, including an image I shot for Garage Magazine a few years back. Ironically it has never been photographed from the back. Until now. “It rules.”

Frank Kozik Likes To Smoke.

August 27th, 2008

Artist Frank Kozik‘s studio is across the hall from my office. It is a dream space for building anything from a car to a toy sculpt. FK has owned Man’s Ruin record label, worked for top ad agencies, published books, designed skateboard graphics, and is now a very well known toy maker to the collector market. A personal note about FB… he hates Kaiser Wilhelm II, loves Mopar, and is known to give history lessons steamroll-style. You’re gonna hear it, if you like it or not.

I shot some toys for Kozik’s next book. There is talk about making some of the images available as signed additions on 16X20 metallic paper. The scale really changes when you see it large, and is complemented well on the super glossy surface of metallic paper. The medium matches the content. Hit me with a comment (or email) if you’re interested, and I’ll send you info when they are available.

A suburban location was scouted and photographed for the background image. The Pacer & Gremlin toy cars are only a little cooler than the real thing.
