Art Show: California Monotypes + Photography

June 22nd, 2012

My wife Jamie and I have an art show together at The Little House Gallery, a Bay Area Community Center located in Menlo Park, CA. The work will be up through July 9th so please visit if you are in the area. We will not be having an opening reception since this is a community center, but I’d love to see your name in the guest book! You can view the work in person (art always looks better in person), play bingo in the auditorium, take a lesson on how to check your email, and have a cup of coffee with a plate of meatloaf. All of this is true.

Our work in the show is for sale. If you are interested in anything please send an email and I’ll let you know about prices. Jamie has (11) framed 11X14 original monotype prints. Each of my (13) photography prints are 16X24 C-prints, flush mounted on gator board, and protected with a transparent clear coat. We put a lot of love into all of it.

Art Show Benefit for Japan at Surfindian in San Diego

April 2nd, 2011

I donated a photo print to Surfindian’s art show to benefit Japan this weekend in San Diego. My wife Jamie sent one of her monotypes in the middle of teaching our 2 month old son how to rule. Looks like a great show with some really cool artists. We’d love to be there in person, but our hands are a little full. Thanks to Masa and Chris for the invite!

On Saturday, April 2, from 6 p.m.-10 p.m., Surfindian in Pacific Beach, CA will host a special event to benefit earthquake and tsunami-ravaged Japan. The fundraiser will include live and silent auctions, live music from The Red Fox Tails, food, drinks and other surprises. Surfboards, art and other items will be auctioned off from shapers, artists and businesses including: Skip Frye, Michael Miller, Steven Mast, Jim Phillips, Manuel C. Caro, Mike Hynson, Koji Toyoda, Yusuke Hanai, Damian Fulton, Devon Howard, Julie Cox, Skye Walker, Jay Watson, Jamie Watson, Cher Pendarvis, Elise Kirkpatrick, Meegan Feori, Seitaku ”Tak” Aoyama, Susan Wickstrand, Christine Brailsford, Kassia Meador, Tyler Warren, Taylor Dunfee, Sam Cody and many more.

All money raised from the auctions or otherwise donated will be given to the U.S. Japan Council, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Surfindian is a surf shop and gallery located in Pacific Beach, California. Surfindian features art-driven, small batch products that reflect an individualized approach to the art of surfing.

Mattson Family Art Benefit – June 26th San Diego

June 20th, 2009

Mattson Family Art Benefit Poster

Poster Art by Julie Goldstein, designed by Mark Tesi

The surf/art communities have banded together to help the parents of the Mattson 2, a stylish mod duo formed by twin brothers Jonathan (drums) and Jared Mattson (guitar). The Mattson 2 keep a relentless schedule playing and recording their own music while also supporting various surf realted events, movies, art shows, and shops across the world. Their father Jan has been diagnosed with colon cancer, and their mother Arlene had surgery in February to remove a brain tumor. With both parents being self employed, a silent auction art benefit has been formed to help cover some of Jan and Arlene’s medical expenses.

For the past few months my wife Jamie has helped to organize art for the show. She has received work from both coasts and abroad. Our home is now stacked with some amazing pieces that we will be driving to San Diego next week to hang with Chris Rule of Surfindian. Road trip! Looking forward to June 26th. Hope to see some of you there.

Well I wish it was me that is off to Hawaii for either a vacation or for a gig. Instead (2) prints have been sent to Kaneohe, Hawaii on Oahu in the hopes of raising money for the 8th Annual Habilitat Art Show and Luau Benefit.

This is the 4th year that Jay Watson Photography has participated. Each year I have donated two prints to the event, and so far everything has been sold. Read the rest of this entry »
