Support Film Noir

January 21st, 2009

Photographers really love movies, and possibly the greatest photographic form of cinema occurs in the art of film noir. Two nights ago I was up very late building a Facebook group page to help out the Film Noir Foundation, a non-profit organization that locates, restores and exhibits film noir gems before they are lost forever. Some really great films have been misplaced over time, fallen off the radar, sitting in vaults or in personal collections gathering dust, or worse – gone!

If you enjoy this form of cinema, please join the Film Noir Foundation Facebook group to help spread the word, and better yet make a contribution to the Film Noir Foundation. A contribution of $25 will make you a Gunsel, over $50 and you move up in the crime world.

To see some rare cinema darkness, get ready for Noir City: The 7th Annual San Francisco Film Noir Festival. Jan 23rd – Feb 1st. This year 22 films will be shown. Each film is set in the world of newspapers, and in some cases, publishing or radio. Noir City is a highlight of the year, I have been a junkie since their first festival.

I couldn’t resist posting this video below. It is a great mash-up from dozens of noir movies. Read more to view the entire list of films. It’s insane!
